Shakeela's path toward empowerment began with the support of United H.O.P.E Foundation through the Oorja Children Education and Development Centre. Recognizing her potential and dedication, the organization provided her with an opportunity to work as a teacher at the centre. This role not only enabled her to earn an income but also helped her develop confidence, leadership abilities, and a stronger sense of self-worth. Through her interactions with children, parents, and the wider community, Shakeela gradually realized her capabilities and began envisioning a future filled with greater possibilities.

While her role as a teacher laid the foundation for personal growth, a major turning point in her life came through Project Indradhanush, a CSR initiative supported by Dulux Paints. The project was designed to empower women by equipping them with practical livelihood skills and creating pathways to entrepreneurship. As part of the initiative, Shakeela participated in an intensive 12-day skill development workshop, where she received professional training in decorative painting techniques, colour application, finishing methods, and customer engagement.

The training opened up a new world of opportunities for her. Beyond technical skills, the program instilled confidence and encouraged participants to explore self-employment opportunities. Through Project Indradhanush, Shakeela was introduced to the concept of Non-Conventional Outlet (NCOs), an innovative model aimed at enabling women entrepreneurs to establish small-scale paint dealerships within their communities.

Recognizing her dedication and entrepreneurial spirit, Dulux further supported Shakeela by facilitating a subsidized dealership, enabling her to set up her own Non-Conventional Counter from her home. This support significantly reduced the barriers to entry that many aspiring entrepreneurs face. In addition to providing access to products, Dulux extended direct sales support, helping her understand customer requirements, manage inventory, and build a sustainable customer base.

With these resources and continuous guidance, Shakeela successfully established her own outlet and began serving customers in her locality. What started as a small home-based venture soon evolved into a thriving micro-enterprise. Her growing reputation for quality service and dedication enabled her to steadily expand her customer network and increase sales.

Today, Shakeela earns approximately ₹25,000 to ₹30,000 per month, providing financial stability for her family and strengthening her position as an independent income earner. Her success has not only improved her household's economic condition but has also enhanced her confidence, decision-making ability, and standing within the community.

Shakeela's journey beautifully illustrates the true meaning of empowerment.
